Steps for creating a Tow
If Car will arrive During Business Hours
Always ask if there is a spare tire or air pump in the trunk so that he can fix and take it to the tire shop without calling a tow. It will save him time waiting for the truck.
The driver can have the car towed and come to Buggy tire shop. if he would like he can also go to any tire shop next to him and we will refund him up to 50$ once they send us the bill ($50 range, up to S60 is fine just tell them 50$ to start). The driver will need to lay out the money to pay for it, so if he does not have any he will need to drive to buggy’s tire shop After that schedule the towing pickup with Towbook.
Outside Business Hours
The driver can call our tow and take the car to any shop that is open and have it fixed (Driver will need to layout) OR let buggy tow pick up the car and bring it to Buggy, in the morning we will fix the flat and let the driver know when to come to pick up the car. After that schedule the towing pickup with Towbook.
- Driver must always Call 911. And make a police report regardless of the damage.
- Notify Buggy about the accident.
You must tag the conversation on Front with the tag “Accident”. The driver must send pictures of the damage, Once you see the pictures you must assess the level of damage and follow the appropriate steps (please make sure you checked the picture properly before deciding what step to take. If not you’re sure. ask Adnan or Mena. don’t make a random decision) :
MINOR DAMAGE: If the car is still in working conditions, being that the damage is really minor, like a simple scratch or something small. he can go back to working with the car after the accident after following the first two steps written above, and come to Buggy office only once he gets police report (which takes 3-5 days). If there was no Police Report filed. he can come into Buggy for paperwork right away or the next day. There’s no need to tow the car or come to Buggy until he has the report (if reported).
MEDIUM DAMAGE: If the car is damaged to the point that the driver can’t work with it but the car is driveable and does not require a Tow, the driver should drive the car right away to buggy (if it’s after 5 pm tell him to come the next day) and speak to the maintenance dept about damages and paperwork. There’s no need to tow the car.
MAJOR DAMAGE: If the car cannot drive at all after the accident. Buggy tow cannot pick up the car since it doesn’t move at all and is blocking traffic, therefore the police will have it towed with their own towing company and buggy will have to go get it and have it picked up. This is what we call a DARP. YOU MUST GET THE TOWING COMPANY’S INFO ASAP, IN ORDER FOR US TO GET THE CAR and inform Mena and Nayima by tagging them on front. Once the driver send a picture of the slip/business card and you tag Naiyma and Mena (This is extremely important so we know where to pick the car up from) we will notify the driver when to come in. only once we get the car
DO NOT. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES. IN ALL THE CASES ABOVE. TELL THE DRIVER WHETHER HE WILL BE CHARGED FOR DAMAGES OR WILL NOT BE CHARGED.
If he asks. tell him -the damage will be inspected thoroughly at the office and the rep will assess the damage charge”. If he has full insurance ($25 a week) you can tell them it won’t be more than 995. But don’t say anything in regards to if it’s his fault or not if he has the report or not, if he will have to pay for it or not. Please make sure to follow this step if necessary!
The car doesn’t start:
If a car doesn’t start you should advise the driver to try and get a jumpstart to avoid calling the tow truck (If necessary we will pay for a jumpstart up to 15S) If the driver gets the car to start thanks to the jumpstart they must be told to drive the car to our shop right after so that we can look at the battery and make sure the issue doesn’t happen again If the driver isn’t able to find a jumpstart or the jumpstart doesn’t help we will need to call the tow truck Please notify the driver that as soon as we get the car we till fix it and let him know when he can come to pick it up at Buggy office. After that schedule the towing pickup with Towbook.
Breakdown in Brooklyn, Queens, or Bronx:
If the car breaks down in Brooklyn. since there’s plenty of parking space you can tell the driver to park the car legally/push the car into a proper legal parking spot (Buggy will not be responsible for any tickets) and leave the key under the mat or in the glove compartment. (Make a note in Towbook about where the key is). Please notify the driver that as soon as we get the car we will fix A and let him know when he can come to pick it up at Buggy office’. After that schedule the towing pickup with Towbook.
Breakdown in Manhattan:
If the car breaks down in Manhattan. since there’s barely any parking space you have to tell the driver to stay with the car. unless he’s able to park it legally/push the car into a proper legal parking spot (Buggy will not be responsible for any tickets) 34 leave the key under the mat or in the glove compartment. (Make a note in Towbook about where the key is). Once you know how long it will take for the tow to get there. you can notify the driver accordingly (If is going to be several hours. he can leave the car, on the condition that it’s parked in a legal spot If it’s not going to be a long time please tell him to wait for them) Please notify the driver that as soon as we get the car we Ail fix it and let him know when he can cane pick it up at Buggy office-. After that schedule the towing pickup with Towbook.
Breakdown on a Highway OR in an Airport:
If a driver breaks down on a highway or in an airport facility, Buggy tow is NOT allowed to go pick up the car from there. Therefore the driver must call 911 and explain to the police officer the situation, making sure they know where he’s located and that they will come to pick up the car. If possible, tell the driver to tell the tow company, when they come to get the car, to tow it directly to Buggy shop (in case of flat tire have it towed to the tire shop at 460 troy ave). If they can’t or won’t do so make sure to get the info of the towing company from the driver and notify Mena or Naiyma so that we can go pick up the car from them.
Checklist before creating a tow:
- Identify the issue to be certain if the car needs to be towed or not.
- Make sure the car is not disabled due to non-payment or any other issue.
- The car should be legally parked, if not, the driver will be responsible for the ticket.
- The car should not be on the highway or in Airport Area, if it is ask the driver to contact Highway/Airport authorities and get the car towed off the highway/outside the airport area.
- The driver can send us pictures of the invoice for the towing payment made to highway/airport authorities.
- If the car is not on the highway/airport area, we will create a tow call for the driver.
- We need to confirm with the driver which phone number is currently available and we will put that phone number on the tow book.
