GY6 Engine

The majority of the 150cc import buggys (buggies) are using the old Honda GY6 scooter engine for their motivation needs. This is a single cylinder air cooled (some have oil cooling) engine that comes standard with two valves. The crank shaft drives a CVT drive unit which in turn drives a final gear in the rear arm that is connected to the ouput driveshaft. This is an adequite design for a small, light, buggy such as the Kinroad Sahara, Dazon Raider, Twister Hammerhead, Blade SX and DX 150s, Carter Talon, Baja Motorsports Baja 150, Tomberlin Crossfire, KPX Xterro, and Kasea AB-7 150. In standard form these engines are developing about 9.2 hp at 7500 rpm. There are many aftermarket parts possibilites designed for the GY6 engine series which can greatly increase it's output. There are also engine modification tricks which can yield further gains. All of these things are covered in great detail in the forums at www.buggynews.com
